Job title: Senior Scientist
Marcello Marelli is a senior scientist at AstraZeneca and his research centers around protein engineering technologies aimed at creating new therapeutic medicines. For the past few years he has been developing an expression system capable of site-specific introduction of unnatural amino acids into target proteins. The unnatural amino acids contain unique chemical handles that enable conjugations that enable the construction of novel protein conjugates such as ADCs, bispecific antibodies and targeted nanoparticles. Marcello received his Ph.D. in cell biology from the University of Alberta, Canada and his post-doc at the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle WA. At the ISB he applied proteomic and genomic technologies to study how subcellular organelles are functionally connected.
